Medical Springs for Medical Requirements
Here at European Springs, we have our very own department dedicated to the manufacture of springs to ISO 13485:2003 that are used in a multitude of medical applications, from pacemakers to springs for both temporary and permanent, passive or active implants.
A significant number of medical spring applications require exceptionally small spring dimensions are made from dedicated materials, various alloys including precious metals such as Platinum, Iridium or Tungsten.
Due to the medical industry being so vast, a whole host of springs are required to carry out day-to-day operations, from micro coils and wire forms to special coiling and reinforcement coils.
Various Forms of Medical Springs
Micro coils are usually used in small medical devices and can be manufactured in various shapes and dimensions to suit their specific use. European Springs have the capability of manufacturing high-quality micro coils and wire forms, from sizes as small as 0.03mm up to wire sizes of 0.80mm, depending on your specific requirements.
There are also requirements for specially shaped coils which have a variable pitch or longer coil in the medical industry. These specially designed and manufactured springs are coiled with various Platinum-Iridium alloys and made into extremely small sizes and complex shapes, depending on their application. Long coil springs up to a length of 6mtr are coiled using bright or PTFE coated stainless steel wires by an advanced, automatic coiling process, controlled by laser sensors.
All springs manufactured for medical purposes have very particular requirements, as they will be utilised in a sterile, clinical setting; extra care must be taken when manufacturing and handling, ensuring complete traceability of all aspects of the production process from raw materials through to production and delivery.
We also supply stamped medical parts which range from high reliability battery contacts and parts of surgical power tools to spring clips which are regularly used in operating theatres.
Reinforcement Coils in Medical Springs
Spiral reinforced polymer tubing is used extensively throughout the medical sector for a multitude of clinical applications. These spirals have an extremely high coiling ratio, some of them have a variable pitch as well as spring diameter, coils measuring up to approximately 350mm in length. Made from stainless spring steel wires, reinforcement coils usually range from 0.20mm to 0.40mm, depending on their application.
As with all springs and wire forms used for medical purposes, once we have passed on the raw materials to manufacturers, the reinforcement coils are handled and packaged with extra care to ensure they are not damaged or contaminated in the delivery process.
