What is a Locking Gas Strut?
A locking gas strut (or lockable gas spring) is a clever mechanism in which the rod can be locked in place throughout the length of its movement from within the strut chamber. When you want to lock the stroke at a certain position without using external locking mechanisms, lockable gas springs are ideal.
How Does the Locking Mechanism Work?
A lockable mechanism on a gas spring allows the rod to be locked into place at any point during its movement. This capability is typically enabled by a plunger that depresses and releases to free or impede this rod as required. To learn more about the mechanism of a locking spring we have explained further in our blog on how lockable gas springs work.
We Manufacture a Range of Quality Assured Lockable Gas Springs
At European Springs, we’re an influential member of the Institute of Spring Technology and the ISME, so our springs are used in many capacities, complying with the requirements of ISO 9001:2008 with the BSI. For example, our gas struts can be applied to adjustable tables, chair seats and backrests, and desks for office equipment. They are also administered in the ergonomic factors of gym machinery, control panels and even patient beds and hospital equipment.
Ideal for Constructions with Significant Forces
Our range of lockable gas springs allows for reliable maintenance of structures and comes in a selection of sizes and forces. Our experienced team will be more than happy to assist you in finding the ideal size for your requirements. Alternatively, European Springs can manufacture locking gas struts to your exact requirements if our standard range is not suitable.
Our Standard Range:
The standard range of lockable gas springs includes:
- 70 different items
- Force ranging from 200 to 1000 N
- Strokes from 15 to 210 mm
- A number of different release mechanisms
Advantages of Lockable Gas Springs
Depending on the type of construction you are undertaking, you may wish to order lockable gas springs. The main advantage to these springs is that, once locked, there is no room for manoeuvrability, which makes them perfect for various projects that require flexibility in locking nature yet are precise and reliable.
A Selection of Rods for Different Requirements
The type of rod you’ll need for your lockable gas springs depends on the purpose you have in mind for utilising them. The three types of rods include flexible, rigid in tension or rigid in compression.
|Flexible||Resistant during push / pull forces|
|Rigid in Tension||No flexibility during pull forces but flexible during push forces|
|Rigid in Compression||No flexibility during push forces but flexible during pull forces|
