European Springs & Pressings Partner with The Leigh UTC

Recently European Springs and Pressings have been partnering with a local school – The Leigh UTC – who offer their students a new ‘T-Level’ in Engineering and Toolmaking. Following a careers presentation at the school by HR Director David Purvis, 12 students aged 16 & 17 visited the company to undergo a mock selection and interview day as part of their course. The selection day, based on the ESP Apprenticeship selection process, involved; a tour of the company, several practical exercises designed to demonstrate technical skill & problem solving and teamwork, and individual interviews.

The students thoroughly enjoyed the process and were impressed by the capabilities that European Springs possess in Toolmaking, Spring Making, and Pressings, with student Nathan Soiza stating that his ‘mind was blown’ and that it was ‘absolutely amazing’!

David Purvis stated that ‘the students demonstrated a level of critical thinking and engineering skill that we have not seen in that age group before. This proves that our partnership with the school will be mutually beneficial; we can provide work experience and visit days such as this, and in return, we may very well see our future apprentices recruited exclusively from the school.’

The mission statement of the Leigh UTC is to develop STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Maths) professionals for the future global market. With the Engineering curriculum designed so that students, when they leave the school, should be competent in the individual use of a range of complex machining techniques and be able to use them to a high level of tolerance.

European Springs are looking to enjoy a lasting relationship with the Leigh UTC, whose values and culture are closely aligned with our own.
