Disc Spring Manufacturers

With over 70 years of precision spring engineering behind us, we have become one of the UK’s most trusted disc spring manufacturers. We specialise in high-performance, ISO 9001-certified disc springs tailored to the needs of various industries, from bespoke solutions to reliable stock supply for large-scale applications.

Custom Disc Springs & Stock Supply Options

We design and manufacture both standard and custom springs, suited to a broad range of applications that require a compact yet durable solution. Whether you’re sourcing a single spring or bulk ordering for production, our engineers are equipped to manage your request.

Our disc springs have a cone-shaped structure, meaning they can generate a high force in a limited space or within a short area of movement. This is perfect for applications where space and movement are limited but performance must remain impeccable.

Do You Need a Custom Disc Spring?

Disc springs can be highly customised through different configurations and materials to precisely match your technical requirements. From dynamic applications to high-temperature environments, our team works closely with you to design components that last.

Our engineers will construct your disc spring to be either linear or regressive, depending on your needs. Disc springs are versatile due to the unlimited number of stacking combinations available, made even more useful by guide washers to avoid friction. Aside from their remarkable versatility, disc springs also exhibit:

  • Customisable load capabilities: by stacking multiple springs in series, you can customise the load to suit specific requirements.
  • High fatigue resistance: designed to resist permanent deformation or failure, these springs excel in applications with dynamic loads or frequent cycling.
  • Temperature stability: disc springs can maintain their properties over a wide temperature range, making them ideal in both low and high-temperature environments.
  • Corrosion resistance: materials like stainless steel, titanium, or other corrosion-resistant alloys offer excellent resistance to rust and corrosion caused by moisture, chemicals, or other harsh environmental conditions.

As part of the global Lesjöfors Group, we supply a comprehensive range of disc springs for both dynamic and static load applications. All stocked disc springs are manufactured to the highest standards with special profiling that ensure the inner diameter remains unchanged under compression, reducing friction and energy loss while extending the lifespan of the spring.

Types of Disc Springs

Our disc springs are divided into three groups based on material thickness and finishing:

  • Group 1 (Material CK 67/51CrV4): Thickness < 1.25mm – not chamfered.
  • Group 2 (Material 51CrV4): Thickness from 1.25mm to 6.0mm – chamfered on inner and outer diameters.
  • Group 3 (Material 51CrV4): Thickness > 6.0mm – chamfered on all sides with all contact surfaces ground flat.

We also supply disc springs designed specifically for static load applications, such as tensioning washers in bolted assemblies. These are available in a simpler design and can be manufactured in a wide range of materials depending on your requirements.

When it comes to materials, we advise against plastics, non-ferrous metals, or magnesium alloys due to their tendency to deform under thermal stress. We recommend materials like stainless steel, inconel, titanium, alloy steel, and hastelloy for a durable and resilient result.

Trusted Disc Spring Suppliers for Every Industry

As experienced disc spring suppliers, we prioritise functional designs, premium quality, and exceptional customer service. Using modern CNC equipment, we’re able to create components tailored to exact specifications for a wide range of industries.

From prototyping to full-scale production, we work closely with your engineering teams to provide high-precision disc springs that meet the strictest compliance and operational standards.

Aside from disc springs, we offer a wide selection of components, including compression springs, torsion springs, and tension springs.

Comprehensive Services & Technical Expertise

Our manufacturing services go beyond spring production, we offer a range of additional procedures to help create a perfected end result. This includes prototyping & testing, surface treatments (including those for corrosion resistance), and sub-assembly services.

All our operations are backed by ISO 9001:2008 certification and affiliation with The Institute of Spring Technology and ISME, ensuring exceptional quality assurance.

Whether you’re looking for single components or large-volume disc spring supply, we provide the quality, support, and delivery you need.

Frequently asked questions

What Are Disc Springs?

Disc springs, also known as Belleville washers, are conical springs that deflect axially when subjected to a load. They offer a high load in a small space and can be arranged in various configurations for different force characteristics.

Their cone shape allows axial compression, which generates a counterforce proportional to the applied load. Multiple disc springs can be stacked in series (to increase deflection) or in parallel (to increase force), making them ideal for applications where space is limited.

  • Automotive: Disc springs are found in many different areas of automotive systems, such as clutches, brakes, and suspension systems.
  • Aerospace: These springs are important in areas where weight savings are crucial, such as in elevator brakes and cable clamps.
  • Construction: In construction, disc springs help maintain the stability of structures and are found in industrial pipe supports.
  • Machinery and Tools: Machinery that requires compact force elements often utilise disc springs, as they provide motion control in conveyor systems and assembly machines.
  • Electronics: Disc springs help to ensure precise motion in miniature assemblies, and are found in everyday items like printers, computers, and storage systems.

Your choice depends on environmental exposure, operating temperature, required lifespan, and mechanical load. Stainless steel is a popular choice for general use, whereas Inconel and Hastelloy thrive in harsh chemical or thermal environments. Our team can help you in the selection process.
