Plastic-Free Spring Clips for Apothecary Jars

Pellimont is a beauty and wellness brand based in the Scottish Highlands, specialising in products designed for individuals with sensitive skin, while also being kind to the environment. With a strong commitment to sustainability, Pellimont creates plastic-free products using minimalist formulations, free from unnecessary additives or fragrances.

The brand faced a dual challenge: securing the lids of their glass apothecary jars without resorting to plastic and encouraging customers to reuse the jars after purchase. Their existing packaging lacked a practical, sustainable solution that reflected their values and promoted a refillable, low-waste approach.

During their search for an eco-friendly packaging alternative, Pellimont discovered Tinkture, a brand we had previously collaborated with. Tinkture had adopted a distinctive clip closure for their apothecary-style bottles – clips that we had designed. These closures stood out for their simplicity, effectiveness, and alignment with sustainable principles, making them a natural fit for Pellimont’s products.

Why Pellimont Chose European Springs

When deciding on a spring clips supplier, several factors made us stand out to Pellimont:

  • Plastic-Free Design: Plastic-free packaging is an integral part of Pellimont’s ethos, and our spring clips provided a sustainable alternative.
  • Secure Fit: Ensuring that the jars remained sealed during shipping was crucial, and these clips provided the reliability Pellimont needed.
  • Encouraging Reuse: The clips are easy to remove and reattach, making them perfect for encouraging customers to repurpose their jars for refills or other uses.
  • Design: The clips add a quirky design feature to the jars which make it stand out against the competition.

Whilst Pellimont considered other closure solutions, but most involved plastic or lacked ease of use. Our clips were the only ones that met the brand’s high standards for sustainability, design, and functionality.

The Process of Working With Us

Pellimont noted that the onboarding process was smooth and collaborative. We provided two sample clips so that they could test their fit and functionality with the jars, and worked closely with them through Teams meetings to fine-tune the design.

These spring clips are now an integral part of Pellimont’s packaging. These clips not only provide security, but also reinforce the brand’s sustainability message and encourage customers to reuse the jars.

Practical Benefits with Customer Appeal

Since implementing these spring clips, Pellimont’s jars are now able to be held firmly in place, without the need for plastic shrink bands or tape. The brand’s customers appreciate the sustainable approach, and are more likely to reuse their jars, helping to align with Pellimont’s refill model.

When asked if Pellimont would recommend our products to others in their industry, they stated “Absolutely. For brands looking for a secure yet sustainable packaging solution, these clips offer a well-designed alternative to plastic closures.”

Testimonial

“I’ve been thoroughly impressed with the service from European Springs & Pressings. From the outset, they understood our vision of creating bespoke clips, that not only protect our Miron glass jars during transit, but also support their long-term reuse. They organised Teams calls to keep communication clear and collaborative, and the samples they supplied were incredibly helpful in guiding our decisions. The final clips are beautifully engineered, enhancing both the practicality and sustainability of our packaging.”

Pellimont customers have responded positively, noting that the clips make the unboxing experience feel premium and intentional. More importantly, they make it easy for customers to reuse the jars for face mask refills or other storage, reducing waste.
