Research & development

Our R&D is a core part of our commitment to engineering excellence. We allocate approximately 10% of our turnover to new plant and technology, ensuring that our processes and equipment remain at the forefront of spring manufacturing and high-speed press technology.

Integration with Production

A key strength of our process is the close integration between R&D and manufacturing. By maintaining our design support in-house, we ensure that any design improvements are quickly implemented. This streamlined transition from prototype to production helps us maintain tight quality control and deliver components on schedule while still meeting the high standards our customers expect.

Advanced Machinery

Our research efforts are supported by state-of-the-art machinery that drives our innovative product development. We incorporate advanced control technologies such as the latest B control system, which reduces set-up times for small volume batches. Our integration of the ‘Unidor’ tool and press monitoring, along with state-of-the-art servo feeders, multi-head MicroCoat lubrication systems, and tool protection and press force monitoring, further enhance efficiency and reliability.

Collaborative Approach

Our R&D process is highly collaborative. We work closely with our customers—running 30 to 40 new product ideas through our facilities every month—to ensure our designs meet specific industry needs. This hands-on engagement allows us to rapidly refine and tailor our products, ensuring they deliver exactly the performance required.

Advanced CAD and Prototyping

Our design phase utilises cutting-edge Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software to create precise digital models. These models allow us to optimise component geometry and simulate real-world operating conditions before any physical prototypes are produced. We offer prototyping capabilities, including laser-cut prototypes, enabling us to test and refine new designs swiftly before full-scale production. Recent investments have led to a 20% efficiency gain in our press shop operations, underscoring our commitment to continuous improvement.
