The Öresund bridge
One of our assignments for the Öresund Bridge demanded a stopping of the large vibrations which worried road users. European Springs used testing and adjustments to find an effective solution for the problem.
The vibration was caused by several cables in the bridge moving strongly in certain wind and temperature conditions, and unfortunately if not attended to, could have been detrimental to the entire strength of the suspension bridge.
European Springs began the task of finding a solution to the problem. We engaged several of our departments and after extensive testing and adjustment; we were able to start production.
We came up with a solution of installing a number of dampers for the most exposed cables on the bridge. These dampers consist of a tube that contains a compression spring and various other components. The spring supports a movable weight, shaped like a piston, and provided with a movable ring. This custom ring regulated the air flow on each side of the piston, for each separate cable.
The dampers were installed in pairs in the very centre of the cables, with two of them equipped with laser gauges for monitoring and registration of piston movement. All of us here at European Springs were proud to have provided an effective solution to the problem through much time planning, re planning and effectively taking hold of the problem at hand.
